AquaKeramik spawning pipe Clay pipe Ø 50 mm length approx. 20 cm
Clay pipe approx. 20 cm long, Ø approx. 5 cm
With these pipes you offer some animals of the genus Hemiloricaria, the so-called witch catfish, a good hiding place. Some species use them as spawning caves. This size also provides an excellent hiding place for some ornamental fish and invertebrates such as smaller loaches or fan shrimps.
These pipes are also used for breeding loricariids. They offer the offspring a place to hide. If the right diameter is chosen, these tubes prevent a lot of stress in the tank because the young animals hide there from their larger colleagues because they cannot get in due to their size.
We use stoneware clay for the production of our clay articles, which can be fired to a high temperature and contains a varying proportion of fireclay depending on the product.
On the one hand, this makes our pipes very stable and durable. On the other hand, this means that the surfaces are never completely smooth, which provides an excellent basis for surface growth, which in turn is very readily grazed by catfish or shrimp.
This slightly rough surface of the cave also benefits the adhesive properties of most fish eggs without damaging the eggs.
The eggs adhere better to the cave wall, minimising the risk of the eggs being flushed out of the cave.
The clay pipes are handmade and shaped. Therefore, each one has different characteristics on the outside and inside. You will receive a unique specimen in each case.
