Slate caves offer many aquarium fish not only a safe retreat, but also ideal conditions for reproduction. L-catfish in particular, such as Hypancistrus or Peckoltia species, prefer caves that are closed on one side as a territory and spawning site. Witch catfish, on the other hand, generally only accept open tubes on both sides as spawning caves.

A particular advantage of our natural stone slate caves: if they are placed next to each other, the protruding floor and roof slabs create additional open cavities. These continuous gaps provide additional hiding places and escape routes, ideal for forming territories and avoiding stress in the aquarium.
