Front entrance caves
Clay caves closed on one side as spawning caves or hiding places for catfish, crayfish & shrimps
The size of the animals determines the required cave size. As a rule, narrower caves are preferred.
Rough rule of thumb: Diameter Ø = width of the catfish body + one pectoral fin, length = 1-1.5 times the body length of the male catfish For the "normal" straight models, the Ø always refers to the inside dimension!
The following list is based on our own experience:
Ø -> 20 mm: Young catfish (e.g. L280), small crustaceans such as CPOs, shrimps
Ø -> 25 mm: young catfish, small catfish (e.g. L046, L174, L280), small to medium-sized crayfish
Ø -> 30 mm: smaller catfish species (e.g. L046, L144, L173, L174, LDA67), medium-sized crayfish
Ø -> 35 mm: medium catfish species (e.g. L134, L374, L201, L204, L236, L398), large crayfish
Ø -> 40 mm: larger catfish species (e.g. L184, L204, L398), large crayfish Ø -> 40-50 mm: e.g. L184, L333, L398
Ø -> 50-60 mm: e.g. L025, L114, L200 low fin, L333, LDA33
Ø -> 60-70 mm: e.g. L025, L114, L200 high fin, LDA33
Ø -> 80-90 mm: e.g. L014, L018, L027, L037, L082, L116, L330
