The leaves made of the natural material clay have a slightly rough surface on which microorganisms and lower plants can settle more easily and thus indirectly become a food source for many invertebrates and growing catfish.

Larger models are suitable as protection for smaller fish such as cichlids or as hiding places for adult catfish such as Ancistrus.
